So, I am suffering from a skin ailment that is common only in Afro-American race. Then I guess, it has nothing to do with race....only that appearance :P

Another Camera Whore

Now a PIL has been filed to challenge the Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar. I really do not understand why some people go to this extent to get some publicity and camera time. And I firmly believe that PILs should be filed in matters that are potentially harmful to the interest of the public, government, judicial system, religious beliefs, morale etc. This matter does not fall into any such category. What the advocate is challenging through the PIL is that a sportsperson does not come under the purview of such honor and are not eligible. Whether necessary amendments were made in the law or not, what is the 'harm' of conferring Bharat Ratna to a sportsperson. If nothing, it will only boost the morale of players (across discipline) in India and may motivate youngsters to take up and do well in sports. I hope the court out-rightly dismisses the PIL.

Kambli suffers a heart attack :( All the best!!!
Har agla kadam picchle kadam se khauf khaata hai,
Har picchla kadam agle kadam se badh ke aata hai

Ahaan!!!

This morning, I read an interview of a wrestler and what he eats to maintain his body. I concluded that there is nothing wrong with my eating habit....I am just in the wrong profession!!!

Dinesh Karthik!!! You lucky dog!!!!
Dragon is bullying everyone around its den. The victims are panicking but they do not have any options . Tiger is the second most powerful animal in the jungle but against the might and firepower of the Dragon, it is looking like a wet puppy.

Tiger is becoming friends with the Sun and thinks it is a good idea. Sun is being bullied by the Dragon as well and enemy of an enemy is a possible friend. However, Sun may have the resources but it lacks muscles. Collectively they do not become a force that would scare the Dragon away. And in the past, Tiger has been beaten up by the Dragon for becoming friends with Dragon's prey and for thinking that it can dictate terms with Dragon.

It seems Tiger has not learnt the lesson. We do not want Tiger to hide in its den. Rather, we want Tiger to understand the danger that Dragon poses and plan accordingly. Only once the Tiger has gained enough strength, it should think about giving any subtle or strong message to the Dragon. Right now, Tiger is not in that position. Trust me Tiger, Dragon will beat the shit out of you. So, prepare and prepare hard.

And yes, do not think that if you keep quiet and ignore, Dragon will not harm you or go away. Dragon gets what it wants as the Dragon knows that Tiger and other animals in the jungle have neither the strength nor the balls. So my dear Tiger, be prepared as the Dragon is coming!!!!

Repetitive Stress Injury

This is what happens if you spend too much time on keyboard and mouse. It is 'repetitive stress injury' on the wrist. And it is mighty painful. I have had this issue since last few years but now it is getting unbearable. The doctor suggests rest for the hand and physiotherapy for a few weeks. Easier said than done. This is bread and butter.

I do plan to rest it for around 10 days when I go on leave in mid-December. For now, I have no choice but to bear the pain and continue working :(

Waiting is not my cup of tea. Especially when I am waiting for something very exciting/desperately. I am going to India on 14th December (will reach there on 15th morning). First thing that I will do after reaching Ranchi is to lift my daughter and give her a big hug. I miss that the most. It is still more than 2 weeks away and I am getting anxious. I understand that there is no point and 14th will come at its own pace. Still.....

Nepal books a semi-final berth in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament and most importantly qualifies for the World Cup T20 to be played next year!!!
Kya kya socha thha!!! Had planned that when Ananya and Roshni are not around, I will use the time to explore the country and the region. Backpacking, photography and what not. Exactly one month has passed and I have not gone out of Mont Kiara for any personal reason!!! I hate this project :(

Whats AAP?

I do not think that any regional party has ever got so much attention as Aam Aadmi Party has been getting. Initially I had mixed feelings about the party. I liked some of the people associated with the party. But now, I am not as confused and I will never vote for it. I have my reasons.

However, the way the party is being 'exposed' in media (all forms), makes me think that Congress (though some say that AAP is an extension of Congress) as well as BJP are getting a little scared of the party. After all, it is just a regional party.

Or is it because Delhi is extremely critical? Having different parties in Central government and Delhi state government may be awkward?

Do not know. But I am finding these sting operations and exposé extremely strange.

This is my favorite pic of her.....

Vote for Change....Vote for Modi

I want Narendra Modi to be the next Prime Minister of India. However, I have serious doubts. Not on his leadership abilities....not about his popularity. ...but on (a) BJP, along with its allies, winning majority, and (b) BJP making Narendra Modi the PM (if it manages majority through the support of its allies) due to political compulsions.

For now BJP is projecting NaMo as the PM candidate. But that is because they clearly understand that they have better chance of bagging the required seats, if NaMo is the PM candidate. The popularity is with him...the masses are behind him.

However, politics is a mathematical game. With such a 'fragmented market', due to the presence of so many national and regional parties, its difficult for a party to win absolute majority. And when that happens, the game becomes interesting but dirty.

Chances are that BJP will have to take support of several regional parties to be able to form a government. If that happens, the regional parties, no matter how small they are, would have a major say in the decision-making. And some of these parties may have their own 'so called secular' agenda. Then, though they may agree for a PM from BJP, they may not give a green signal to Narendra Modi. Then, all of a sudden, Advani may come back into reckoning.  It could be someone else as well, like Sushma Swaraj. No matter who, it may kill NaMo's chances.

Before going further, I ask myself.....Do I want Congress to go? Definitely YES.....Do I want NaMo to be the PM?....THE BIGGEST YES...EVER.....Do I want BJP to form the government without NaMo as the PM? Hmmmm.....it will be better than now, as Congress is too corrupt and is also taking all of us for granted......but.....apart from NaMo, not many in BJP are any better as well....plus, I do not really believe in BJP.....I believe in NaMo!!!

Clearly, the third question does not have a straight forward answer. I am confused and I guess so would be many others. So, whats the solution.

If we want NaMo to be the PM, we need to give a clear message to our local leaders and parties that we will vote for them only if they support BJP and NaMo. We have to force them to have a pre as well as post poll alliance with BJP. We need to give a strong message across that anything less than 'Modi as PM' will not be acceptable.

This time, I request everyone to not to vote for your local party or leader.....vote for Modi!!!

There is a reservation for 1 Sharma in the team, under 'Haramkhor Quota'...since Rohit is now in form (and Mohit has not done too badly), Ishant Sharma has got the reserved seat!!!
Khan Dost!!!! So happy to see you make a comeback!!! Now help us win the South Africa series

Wish you speedy recovery

Whats happened to Virender Sehwag? The batsman is so good but still is hopelessly out of form. Failed in his last few International outings. Thats understandable. If a batsman is out of form, the technology and cameras reveal all there is to know to the opposition team. And the bowlers exploit the weakness effectively.

But in Ranji trophy games??? Most teams in India's premier domestic tournament have mediocre bowlers. Every team has 1-2 good bowlers at the most. Others are the kind of bowlers who used to fodder for the canon for Sehwag when he was on top of his game. But now, he gets out to legendary unknown bowlers!!!

Its more mental than anything else. Sehwag may not have been the most technically sound test batsman that India has produced but he definitely was the most destructive and effective test batsman. Thosr two adjectives are rarely used in Test cricket. Till Sehwag happened!!!

He had two test triple centuries. No other Indian batsman has scored even one. He came close on another occasion as well but couldn't get there. Millions were disappointed but he was not. He just shrugged it off in his usual style by saying that it will come on another day. And everyone believed him. Afterall, the same had happened after he got out just on the door of a double-century (195) in Australia. So what has happened to such a gifted player.

I think it is more mental than anything else. The will and the dream is still there but I guess he is thinking too far ahead when he is batting. I guess now he would understand and appreciate what Tendulkar meant when he said that "he gets into a zone".

I wish speedy 'recovery' to the Nawab of Najafgarh and the inconsistent, unpredictable and unexpected ruler of test batting. He still has it in him. He just needs to get his act straight.  He has done so much for Indian cricket and deserves a better farewell. ...whenever that happens.

Sleepless!!

A new strange symptom has emerged and has started to bother me. Want to reach India asap to get the tests done. But 15th December is still far away. Getting anxious

I miss you :(

Lets play

Some of my favorite songs

Where is Aayun...where is Aayun....There she is!!!!

Indian selectors have picked Rahane as well as Rayudu in the test team bound for South Africa but I would be surprised if either of them get a game, unless there is an injury. Dhoni would go with his favorite 7+4 combination. In the batting department, openers would definitely be Dhawan and Vijay. They would be followed by Pujara, Kohli, Sharma and Dhoni. Dhoni will certainly play Jadeja and in the absence of any all-rounder in the side, that selection is pretty understandable. The bowlers would be Aswin and then three seamers. I would personally like to see Khan, Kumar and Shami. I find Ishant and Umesh Yadav pretty one dimensional. So, that leaves no position for Rahane or Rayudu. Both are great talents but are unable to find a place in the side. Though that is a good problem to have for Indian team and Indian cricket, it is unfortunate for the two youngsters.

'Pasta Queen' asking for more pasta!!!

Nawaz Sharif calls for visa-free travel between India and Pakistan. Yeah...right!!! And, in any case, most of your people come into India without any visa!!!

Blogging vs Tweeting

I blog and sometimes I tweet. Blogging is for 'essay type' feelings. You can share your thoughts and elaborate. I dont like tweeting as much....the character limits make me so mad. You put your thoughts and then try to reduce the number of characters. Not for me!!!

Attention: Maid is coming

My wife gets so excited when the maid arrives. Having a maid is a luxury in KL (and in most places outside India) and usually, one calls a maid only once a week. So, her excitement is quite natural.

I, on the other hand, am usually in a panic mode when the maid is about to come (when I am alone). I have to clean up the house a little before the maid comes and does the rest. Else, the mess would be too embarrassing!!!

Just completed the 'basic' cleaning and now am waiting for the maid.
3 am and am still working.....

Thursday, November 21, 2013

The project is in 'slog overs' stage and I am falling apart. Right wrist, with repetitive stress injury, is becoming increasingly painful. Plus, the work, analysis, findings....everything is all over the place. I hope I can be alright to see the project through.......

After that.....I want to catch up on sleep. Long overdue!!!
I guess Tarun Tejpal considers Julian Assange as his role model!!! At least when it comes to sexual assaults

Misquoted!!!

"Expatriate Animesh Kumar, 33, from India said he sees City Hall workers patching up many potholes from time to time but it is usually a shoddy job, thus the recurrence"!!!!

I have been misquoted!!! I never said that!!! I had in fact praised the overall infrastructure and management but I guess that was not a good read!!! Is there a lawyer in my friend list?

Someone was taking a pic of a pot hole in Mont Kiara. I found it amusing and took this pic of the photographer. He and his team noticed that. Turned out that they were journalists for a local newspaper. They interviewed me and asked me about the pot hole!!!! Told them that I didnt put it there!!!

If you dont think that Sachin Tendulkar deserves the Bharat Ratna then #aapchutiyehain

Medical Tourism

India....am coming. Short trip and largely unplanned. I am not sure if I will be able to meet everyone or not. Am travelling to get medical check-ups done. Donno if treatment can be accommodated in the same trip or not. Looking forward to meeting you Ranchi. Please do not be too cold. Please understand that I have stayed in KL and South India in last 13 years. I dont have any winter clothing. And people of my dimensions do not get them easily. So please have mercy.

Cut the crap

Amidst all the crap from certain people, I do agree that Major Dhyanchand equally deserves the Bharat Ratna. I have said that whenever I have expressed that Sachin deserves the honor. The two were on top of their sports and were a class apart.

Other names, I believe, are not quite there. Bindra did win us an Olympic Gold but that we cannot say that he is much better than Gagan Narang. Vishwanathan Anand did win a lot of tournaments and was the world champion for several years. He does present a strong case but his case is still not as strong as that of Sachin and Major Dhyanchand. He did not have to deal with the expectations of a billion people. And he was not under constant scrutiny of the media.

And yes, the government did tweak the system to give Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar but that is the kind of respect he commands and deserves. I strongly believe that the government has finally done something right.

So, I do not agree with the nonsensical crap being shared by few people. If you want to gain some visibility by criticizing Sachin, it just shows your class. I am glad that such people are not many.....at least in my friend list.
There is a little bit of Raj Thakeray, Digvijay Singh in a lot of people. Subah subah benjo mood kharaab kar rahe hain

The last section looks extremely funny.....I dont think ToI intended it in a funny way but that is a question a lot of people must be asking

'Former' India Cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar becomes the first sportsman to be bestowed with the country's highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna
Body is succumbing to the unhealthy lifestyle and completely crumbling. Frequent chest pains, severe dizziness, headache, nausea, achilles tendonitis, repetitive stress injuries, hypertension.......and what not. Am often told that you do not need to give 100% on everything. I have always found this strange and funny. But I guess its high time that I start finding that balance.

Play Time

Two of the biggest regrets in my life are (a) not buying that INR 25,000 ticket for 02 Apr 2011 and (b) not buying the ~65K Mumbai flight ticket for this weekend — feeling ashamed.
What an emotional speech. Thank You Sachin for everything......And, thank you Wankhade for showing so much love and support. Today, I forgive you for what you did 2,799 days back

GOD's Last Speech: On the day of his retirement

"Friends please settle down, I'll get more emotional! It's hard to believe my wonderful journey is coming to an end. I've a list of names to thank. The first is my father, who passed away in 1999. Without his guidance I wouldn't be standing in front of you. he said 'chase your dreams, don't give up, the path will be difficult.' I miss him today. My mom, I don't know how she managed a naughty child like me. She just prayed and prayed from the day I started playing the game. For four years I stayed with my uncle and aunt when in school, they treated me like their own son. My eldest brother Nitin doesn't like to talk ,much but he said, whatever you do, I know you will give 100%. My first cricket bat was presented to me by my sister Savita. She still continues to fast while I bat. Ajit my brother - We have lived this dream together, he sacrificed his career for me, he took me to Achrekar sir first. Even last night he called me to discuss my dismissal. Even when I'm not playing we will still be discussing technique. If that hadn't happened, I would have been a lesser cricketer.

"The most beautiful thing happened to me when I met Anjali in 1990. I know that being a doctor there was a big career in front of her. But she decides that I should continue playing and she took care of the children. Thanks for bearing with me for all the nonsense I've said (Anjali wipes tears). Then the two precious diamonds of my life Sara and Arjun. I've missed out on several birthdays, holidays. I know for 14-16 years I've not spent enough time with you. But I promise you I will spend the next 16.

"My inlaws - I've discussed several things with them. The most important thing they did was allow me to marry Anjali. In the last 24 years my friends have made terrific contributions. They have been with me while I was stressed. They have been with me even at 3am when I was injured. Thanks for being there for me.

"My career started when I was 11. I was extremely delighted to see Achrekar sir in the stands. I used to ride on his scooter and play two matches a day. Sir took me along to make sure I played. On a lighter note, Sir never said 'well played' because he didn't want me to be complacent. You can push your luck now, Sir, since I'm not playing cricker anymore.

"I started my career here in Mumbai. I remember landing from NZ at 4am and playing a Ranji game the next day. The BCCI was fantastic from my debut. Thanks to the selectors. You were right with me making sure my treatment was taken care of.
"Thanks to all the senior cricketers who have played with me. We see on the screen Rahul, VVS, Sourav, Anil who is not here. All the coaches. I know when MS presented the 200th Test cap, I had a message to the team - I said we are all so proud to be representing the nation. I hope to continue to serve the nation with dignity. I have full faith that you will serve the country in the right spirit.

I will be failing in my duty if I didn't thank the doctors who have kept me fit. Given the injuries I have suffered. They have treated me in odd hours.

My dear friend the late Mark Mascarenhas. I miss him. My current management team WSG, for continuing what Mark has done. Someone who has worked closely with me for 14 years is my friend Vinay Nayudu.

"The media has backed me a lot, since my school days. Even today. Thank you. Thanks to the photographers for capturing those moments.

"I know my speech has become long. I want to thank people who have flown in from different parts of the world. I want to thank my fans from the bottom of my heart. "Sachin, Sachin" will reverberate in my years till I stop breathing."
बड़े सुकून से रुखसत तो कर दिया उनको,
फिर उसके बाद, मोहब्बत ने बस इंतेहां कर दी

(Copied from somewhere)
I would not mind talking to you. Yes, there are a few things that I did not like but that was years back. Yes, I still believe that I did have a point but how does it matter anymore. Yes, I do agree that I may have hurt you as well but that is what happens in/after an unpleasant episode.

But, I do not know what to say when I call you. I cannot talk just for the sake of talking. That would be so awkward. I do not know whether you have something to say or not. You used to call whenever there was something.....now there are formal looking mails here and there. I cannot be fake in any kind of relationship so I cannot call up and talk about trivial things.

Till the time we have something to say to each other.........

That straight drive off Sammy reminded me of some of the most memorable and joyous moments of last 24 years of my life. It was a privilege watching and idolizing you Sachin. I do not care whether you score a century tomorrow or not (though that would indeed be icing on a very large cake). Just have a good time in the middle. Lets all of us enjoy....till it lasts. And as Jim Carrey said to Meryl Streep, God bless you as you have blessed us and as he has blessed us through you #YehDilMaangeMore

Gu Monning

Sikke pe Sikka

The end is near...... sun raha hai na tu...ro raha hun main.....
Met Mr. Sugato Sen, Deputy Director General of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in the 4th International Automotive Conference Kuala Lumpur. He painted an absolute gloomy picture of the Indian economy and a depressing picture of the Indian automotive market. He however sounded optimistic about positive changes after the next elections. I hope that truly reflects the general mood and expectations of industries in India
