50th Test Ton!!!

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey

I watched the movie "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey" on the day it was released. And I must say that I was (and am) deeply moved by the movie. So much that now I am also reading Manini Chatterjee's book, "Do and Die - The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34".

The movie brought out various emotions. Patriotism and Pride (for obvious reasons) as well as "shame". Shame because I did not know much about this significant incident in our freedom movement. So many people (mostly teenagers) risked and gave their lives and we do not know much about the incident....thats indeed shameful.

While coming out of the movie hall, I knew that the movie is too lengthy and may not be liked by many. However, I thought that it is the "munni and sheila" fans who will not like it. I was amazed to find that many of my friends and relatives did not like it too. Two weeks after its release, the movie is not running in a single theatre in Hyderabad....that confirms that the movie has not appealed to most people.

This has also brought out the same emotion...shame. Teenagers were mature enough to fight for our freedom. So many people died in the "Chittagong Uprising" and we are looking for bloody entertainment??!!! Its shameful!!!

If nothing else, watch it as a documentary. Watch the movie because the story of Surjya Sen and his team of revolutionaries needs to be told. Watch it because we owe them.
